Ρωμαϊκή σαρκοφάγος με ανάγλυφη παράσταση με θέμα την Ιφιγένεια εν Ταύροις. Orestes and Iphigeneia (front side). Center, Orestes and Pylades after their arrival in the barbarian country of Tauris (Crimea); the matricide Orestes is tormented by an Erinye (whip and snake) and supported by his friend. Left, sanctuary of taurian Artemis with cult icon, offering vase, tree and temple (hanging heads from human sacrifices); a Barbarian is pushing 2 prisonner friends (?) to priestress Iphigeneia. Right, Iphigenia with the stolen cult icon, victory of the barbarians; Iphigenia on the fleeing ship. Lid: garlands, erotes, eagle, heads and dolphins.
