Level D

Listening Comprehension

The duration of the examination of listening comprehension in level D is 40 minutes. The examination consists of three parts. The means used to examine listening comprehension is a tape and / or CD where the text, stories or dialogues, and instructions on the conduct of the examination are recorded. Proportional to the duration of the test is the total number of words of three texts. Thus, in listening comprehension the total number of words is 1,500. The candidate must have the ability to extract information and hints from discussions that may contain unfamiliar topics in which at least three native speakers of the language are involved communicating at a normal rate of speech. The candidate is required to keep short notes to properly combine the different pieces of information provided to him, to choose out of four options the only correct one, to recognize what is and is not included in a document, etc.

Reading Comprehension

The duration of reading comprehension in level D is 50 minutes. The examination consists of three parts. The candidate must be able to understand information and ideas, to recognize the tone and define the purpose of different types of written texts for the general reader. Proportional to the duration of the test is the total number of words of three texts that candidates are required to understand. Thus, in reading comprehension, the total number is 1,500 words. The candidate is required to keep short notes in order to properly combine the different pieces of information provided to him, to choose out of four options the only correct answer, to recognize what is and is not included in a text, to predict the continuation of a sentence, a paragraph, a story, to combine paragraphs of a text that is split in two, etc.

Writing

The duration of writing in level D is 1 hour and 50 minutes. The examination consists of two parts. Proportional to the duration of the test is the total number of words of texts that candidates are requested to write. Thus, in writing the candidates should write in both parts texts of a total of 600 words.
The candidate must have the ability to express himself in writing in a wide range of topics related to daily needs and areas of personal and professional pursuits. He is required to write informal or formal letters, applications, curriculum vitae, to express in writing their views and arguments on various topics etc.

Speaking

During speaking candidates are examined in pairs. The duration of this skill in level D is 15 minutes. The candidate must have the ability to express ideas effectively in the context of his personal and professional experiences with a high degree of fluency and accuracy of vocabulary and grammatical structures, and take part in discussions that refer to situations that are unknown to him. He is required to develop his views on various topics using the appropriate tone and expressions required for each topic. He is also invited to speak to his fellow candidate by developing arguments and ideas in order to dissuade him in case he has opposite views. The speaking examination is recorded. It is stressed that no preparation time is given to candidates.
